An actuary with a database eventually does the obvious thing: analyzes it. Here’s the state of the resource database in aggregate, and what the numbers say about the landscape you’re navigating.
What’s in it now
Fifty-plus curated entries: scholarships and funding leading by count, then exam prep, communities, tools, and programs. Every entry hand-checked, with deadline notes where the sponsor publishes cycles, and honest “verify on the official page” flags where they don’t.
What the scholarship data shows
Three patterns worth your attention. First, awards cluster in two seasons, a spring wave and an early-summer wave, which means an application calendar assembled in January catches nearly everything, and one assembled in April misses half the year. The deadlines view exists because of this pattern.
Second, identity-based and pipeline awards are the deepest pool for the students this site serves: IABA, OLA, Abacus, TAF’s diversity programs, and the corporate opportunity funds. If you belong to any community with an organized actuarial presence, that organization is statistically your best first application, because the applicant pools are smaller and the awards renew.
Third, the fully-funded routes are geographic. South Africa’s bursary system remains the most complete funding model on the continent, tuition plus stipend against a work-back commitment, which is why the South Africa guide treats employers as the primary funders, not universities.
The honest gaps
The database is thinnest exactly where readers keep asking: standing scholarships for candidates outside university (career changers self-funding exams), and awards native to Zimbabwe, Kenya, and Ghana rather than reachable from them. Those gaps aren’t curation failures. They’re market failures. Part of the long-term mission here is to help close them, not just catalog around them.
Use the aggregate
One application is a lottery ticket; a portfolio of eight to twelve applications across the two seasonal waves is a strategy. The database, the deadline calendar, and the free starter pack are built to make the portfolio approach the default. The numbers say it works. Go prove them right.
